Sketchwright Privacy Policy
This policy explains how Drydock Labs, Inc. (“Drydock Labs”, “we”, “us”) handles information in the Sketchwright Mac app (“the App”) and on its website: what we collect and why, how it is handled, and your rights with respect to it. If you are a California resident, section 11 is our Notice at Collection.
In short
- Sketchwright has no account and no ads. We don't sell your information.
- Speech is transcribed on your Mac, and your audio never leaves it.
- To work, the App may send what you say and type, what is on your boards, and other things you let it use, such as pictures, a window or your calendar, to the coding agents you have set up on your Mac (such as Claude Code or Codex), and to Drydock Labs' servers, and from there to OpenRouter and the AI providers we use, such as OpenAI and TypeSafe's Jev.
- With “Help improve Sketchwright” on, sentences your microphone picks up or you type are sent to us, with names, contact details and account numbers removed, to improve the App. It is on, and required, when you use the free hosted model. If you use your own Claude Code or Codex instead (a free ChatGPT account works), it is off unless you turn it on in Settings.
- Your sessions and sketches are kept on your Mac.
1. What the App uses
- Your microphone and the audio your Mac plays, including the voices of other people on a call.
- What you type into the App.
- Things on your Mac you let it use, such as your calendar, a window or your screen, and the folders and projects you give your agents.
2. Where your information goes
- Your coding agents. The App gives the conversation, your boards and things you let it use to the coding agents you have set up on your Mac. They send it to their providers under your own agreement and those providers' privacy policies, and may search the web for you.
- Drydock Labs' servers, and the AI providers we use through them, such as OpenAI, OpenRouter and TypeSafe's Jev.
- Apple's device verification service, which the App asks for a token showing it runs on a genuine Mac. Our servers verify the token with Apple and may ask Apple to record, against this Mac, that a free allowance has been claimed on it. Apple's privacy policy applies.
- Websites the App fetches pictures and pages from.
- Our update service, which the App contacts to check for new versions.
Requests to these AI providers are made from our servers, not from your Mac, so the providers do not receive your IP address. Requests to OpenAI carry a hashed identifier derived from your copy of the App, which helps OpenAI detect misuse without telling it who you are.
3. What we collect and why
Our guiding principle is to collect only what we need. There is no account, so we don't ask for your name or email address. Drydock Labs may keep information such as:
- An identifier for your copy of the App.
- The public half of a key your Mac makes for the App, which ties that identifier to your Mac. The private half never leaves your Mac.
- Records of requests made by your copy of the App, such as their size, cost and any errors.
- With “Help improve Sketchwright” on: what your Mac's microphone picks up while nothing else is playing on your Mac (which may include other people in the room) and what you type, together with what the App did in response. Before anything is sent, the App removes names, email addresses, phone numbers, street addresses and account or card numbers on your Mac; other personal details may remain. We use this to improve Sketchwright.
- Messages you send us. When you email us with a question or to ask for help, we keep that correspondence, including your email address, so that we have a history of past correspondence to reference if you reach out in the future.
“Help improve Sketchwright” is on, and is required, when the App uses the free hosted model: the App uses the free hosted model only while it is on, and never while it is off. To use the App without it, use your own Claude Code or Codex (a free ChatGPT account works). With your own Claude Code or Codex, it is off unless you turn it on. You can turn it on or off at any time in Settings. Nothing is sent for this purpose while it is off or while you are off the record.
Sketchwright’s website and servers keep standard web server logs, which record details of each request, such as your IP address, the time, the page or address asked for and the page that linked to it, your browser or app version and language, and the response. We keep them for about 90 days, to run and secure the service, count downloads and understand approximately where Sketchwright is used. They never hold what you say or type, and your audio stays on your Mac.
The website sets no cookies. Its home page loads fonts from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address. The website does not respond to Do Not Track signals, as it does not track you across other sites.
4. How we use your information
- To provide the App's functions, such as drawing your sketches and running your agents.
- To run and secure our servers, give each installation of the App its weekly free allowance, prevent abuse and understand what usage costs. This is why we keep the identifier for your copy of the App, its key and the records of its requests.
- To improve Sketchwright, while “Help improve Sketchwright” is on.
- To respond to you when you contact us.
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we rely on these legal bases: performing our agreement with you, to provide the App and, while you use the free hosted model, for “Help improve Sketchwright”, which is a condition of that free service; your consent, for “Help improve Sketchwright” with your own Claude Code or Codex, where it is off unless you turn it on, and which you can withdraw at any time by turning it off in Settings; our legitimate interests in running, securing and improving Sketchwright, including keeping the records of requests section 3 describes; and complying with our legal obligations.
5. When we access or disclose your information
- To provide the service you've asked for. We use some third-party providers to help run Sketchwright: the AI providers named in section 2, Apple for device verification, Wikimedia Commons for pictures, and NetActuate, which hosts our website and servers.
- At your direction. What you give your coding agents goes to their providers under your own agreements with them.
- With your permission.
- When required under applicable law, or to protect our rights, our users or others.
- As part of a merger, acquisition or similar change at Drydock Labs.
We don't sell your information.
6. What stays on your Mac
- Your sessions, in
~/Library/Application Support/com.sketchwright/Sessions/. A saved session contains its sketches, the pictures and window captures they use, the session's title and label, and for each thread the App's summary of what was agreed and what is still open. “Keep past sessions on this Mac” in Settings turns this off, and you can delete what is kept in Settings > Memory. - Your agents' own folders, in
~/Library/Application Support/com.sketchwright/Agents/, and the website data of their live pages, so a sign-in there lasts until the agent is removed. - Local logs in
~/Library/Application Support/com.sketchwright/logs/, which hold timings, counts, errors and the App's own identifiers, not what you say. Help > Reveal Logs opens the folder.
The App matches pictures to your words on your Mac; your words are not sent anywhere for this. A library of symbols and small pictures is built into the App. When the App needs a picture that is not built in, or a larger version of one, it downloads that picture from Wikimedia Commons, which receives the picture’s file name and your IP address.
7. Pause and off the record
You can pause the App at any time; while paused it does not listen. When you go off the record, the App does not save the session and sends nothing under “Help improve Sketchwright”.
8. Other people and recording
The App transcribes all speech picked up by your microphone and all audio your Mac plays, including other participants in calls. It does not record audio: speech is transcribed on your Mac as it is heard, and the audio is not saved. The App does not save a transcript on your Mac; a saved session contains only what section 6 lists, and you can turn saving off or go off the record. What is said may still be sent to the coding agents and providers described in section 2 and, with “Help improve Sketchwright” on, kept by us as section 3 describes. Laws in some jurisdictions require that all participants in a conversation be notified of, or consent to, its being recorded or transcribed. You are responsible for complying with the laws that apply to you.
9. Permissions
macOS asks before the App can use your microphone, your Mac's audio, your calendar or your screen. It also asks before a live pane can click and type in another app (Accessibility), and before an agent's commands can control another app (Automation). You can change these at any time in System Settings > Privacy & Security. Each permission is optional, though without it some features are unavailable.
10. Your rights
We strive to apply the same data rights to everyone, regardless of where they live. These include the right to know what personal information we collect and how we use and share it; to access it; to correct it; to have it erased; to restrict or object to how it is used; to receive it in a portable form; and to complain to the appropriate supervisory authority. We will not charge you more or give you a lower level of service because you have exercised these rights, though erasing some information may stop parts of the service from working for you.
To access, correct or delete your information, or to exercise any other of these rights, write to [email protected]. We may need to take reasonable steps to verify your identity before responding, and certain information may be exempt from such requests under applicable law. Depending on applicable law, you may have the right to appeal our decision to deny your request.
11. California Notice at Collection
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act of 2020 (“CCPA”), requires us to provide some additional information. The rights in this policy are the same ones we offer everyone.
We collect these categories of personal information, for the purposes section 4 describes, and keep them as section 13 describes:
- Internet network and device information, such as your IP address, the identifier for your copy of the App and the public half of its key.
- Coarse geolocation, such as the approximate location your IP address suggests.
- Audio, electronic or similar information, such as the text of speech the App transcribes, when it is sent through our servers or, with “Help improve Sketchwright” on, kept by us.
- Product interaction information, such as what the App sends through our servers, the records of its requests and, with “Help improve Sketchwright” on, sentences your microphone picks up or you type, with the personal details section 3 lists removed, and what the App did with them.
- Customer service interaction information, such as messages you send us and your email address.
We disclose them to our service providers and, where the law requires, to government authorities or others as section 5 describes. We do not sell or share your personal information as the CCPA defines those terms, and we have not done so in the past 12 months. We do not disclose your personal information to third parties for their own direct marketing purposes.
12. How we secure your data
All data is encrypted with TLS when transmitted between our servers and the App or your browser. We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.
13. Data retention
We keep your information for the time necessary for the purposes for which it is processed. We keep records of requests for 40 days, what “Help improve Sketchwright” sends for 90 days, and web server logs for about 90 days. For other information, the length of time depends on the purposes for which we collected and use it and your choices, after which time we may delete or aggregate it. We may also retain and use this information as necessary to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.
14. Location of site and data
Sketchwright’s website and servers are hosted by NetActuate on servers located in the United States. If you are located in the European Union, UK, or elsewhere outside of the United States, please be aware that any information you provide to us will be transferred to and stored in the United States.
15. Children
Sketchwright is not intended for use by anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe we have, contact us and we will delete it.
16. Changes and questions
We may update this policy as needed to comply with relevant regulations and reflect any new practices. Whenever we do, we will refresh the date at the top of this policy.
